Rules for safe activities within Malmö Klätterklubb
In our premises, it is the gym host or activity manager who checks that ongoing activities and participants follow the given rules.
- Everyone who participates in Malmö Klätterklubb's activities or stays on our premises is obliged to follow these rules and instructions from responsible persons at Malmö Klätterklubb and Malmö Stad.
- Everyone who is on the club's premises must behave in a way that minimizes risks (e.g. do not disturb climbers or belayers, do not walk between the belayer and the wall, do not stay/ walk under climbers, do not put equipment under climbing areas)
- For all rope climbing, the belayer must hold a green or red card issued according to SKF guidelines and follow the methods and instructions required to obtain the respective card.
- In all rope climbing, it is only allowed to tie in with an eight-knot.
- When bouldering on a rope wall, you must not climb higher than the waist level with the first carbine, for children up to 13 years, the face is max up to the 1st carbine.
- All training of belayers may only be done by Malmö Klätterklubb approved instructors.
- Only equipment certified for belaying climbers and meeting the manufacturer's rules for age and wear may be used. A lanyard or HMS knot is not allowed.
- Everyone on the premises with sufficient knowledge of the club's rules is encouraged to act on suspected deviations from the above rules to reduce the risk of errors or accidents, in the first instance, the deviation should be reported to the responsible person, if this is not possible, the deviation can be corrected on its own.
- Activities are only allowed in our premises when the person in charge is in place, the member who is assigned a tag and opens the room and lets other climbers in automatically becomes responsible for the activity. This person shall act as gym host until the responsibility is handed over to another person with a tag. When the last person in charge is to leave the room, all material is returned to the booth, which is locked and thus the activity ends. (The last person out must close the windows and turn off the lights in the rope hall and check that the front door is locked).
- Age limit 13 years for top rope belaying, lead belaying and lead climbing.
- Children under 13 years of age only in the company of a parent.
Safety information
Risks
All climbing is risky, especially rope climbing at higher altitudes, but bouldering also involves injuries, so methods, materials and rules have been developed to minimize these risks as far as possible.
All participants in Malmö Klätterklubbs activities must be informed of the risks of climbing and our rules by reference to this information on the website and notices posted in the premises.
In Sweden, it is primarily the Swedish Climbing Federation (SKF) that has a compilation of documentation on what applies in the safety area, development is ongoing so they gradually update their documents, for the most current information, please refer to their website klatterforbundet.se.
Within Malmö Klätterklubb , safety is our highest priority, the club has therefore defined a number of rules that everyone who is on our premises or who participates in our activities is obliged to follow, see the heading Rules for safe activities within Malmö Klätterklubb above.
Preventive works
Malmö Klätterklubb's board is responsible for ensuring that safety is maintained at the club, for preventive work, applicable parts of the Swedish Climbing Federation's Crisis Plan apply to Malmö Klätterklubb (see klatterforbundet.se) as well as our local routines described in Safety routines for Malmö klätterklubb. Submitted incident reports and new information from the SKF Safety Committee are continuously reviewed by the board and safety officers and, if necessary, rules and equipment are adapted to new guidelines.
Procedure for monitoring
In our premises, during normal opening hours, there is a designated gym host who is responsible for activities and who must check that ongoing activities and participants follow the given rules and who must intervene in the event of deviations. The activity manager shall in the first instance ensure that the deviation is rectified. If the deviation cannot be rectified, the person in charge must ensure that the persons/materials/areas in question are closed off from climbing for the duration of the activity. For activities outside the club's regular opening hours, the member with the key who opens the room becomes the activity manager and has the corresponding responsibility. For activities outside the premises, it is the designated leader or convenor of the activity who is responsible for the activity.
Actions in case of non-compliance (or suspicion of non-compliance)
- In the case of incorrectly loose equipment (harnesses / ropes / training equipment, etc.), this is remedied by marking it with the error description, date and name of the person who made the note, then the material is placed in the booth if possible and the deviation is reported on the club's incident report.
- In the event of a deviation on other equipment, this is remedied on site if possible, or the equipment/area is cordoned off by marking with yellow-black tape and/or notices and the deviation is reported on the club's incident report.
- In the event of incorrect handling or behavior, this is remedied by recommending that the persons concerned follow the methods described on this pageMalmö Klätterklubb Safety and Rules). The hall host or instructor should primarily intervene and prevent an ongoing activity, but everyone in the room is encouraged to act in a positive way to prevent something that seems wrong, e.g. by giving tips on safer methods and handling.
- In the event of an incident that could lead to personal injury, and in the event of any personal injury, this MUST be reported on the club's Incident Report.
